The City Hall of Porto and the Casa da Música are associated once again for the Concerts in the Avenue, which this year takes place on 4th and 5th September, as always, at Aliados Avenue.
On September 4th there will be a tribute to the crazy years preceding the rock. The Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra become a big band of 30's and the Aliados Avenue in the largest ballroom of the city for the people to dance to the swing rhythm. The crazy dance born in Harlem, New York, quicly spread on ballrooms all over the world, is remembered for the music of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, among others, in a show of the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra, under musical direction of Francisco Ferreira.
Participating dance schools: Swing Station; Dance Time; Escola de Dança Afrolatin Connection; Eu Danço e Ritmo Azul.
On September 5th, after the success of the previous years, the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra comes again to the Aliados Avenue with an attractive program with free entrance. The contagious Fandango of Freitas Branco is part of your Suite Alentejana and, with the typical sound of the castanets, is an invitation to the traditional dance. The sensual dances and songs that Bizet composed for Carmen have made this Opera of one of the most popular works in the entire repertoire and are indispensable in a night of Iberian flavor. This ends with the ritual dance of an Andalusian Gypsy, seeking to get rid of the ghost of her husband that haunts her. The musical direction will be dealt by Pedro Neves.
